Colorado Nursing Prerequisites

For students considering nursing in Colorado, it’s important to learn about the perquisites for the various nursing schools in the states. Learning about the prerequisites for Colorado nursing students can ensure that the student is prepared for the education required and even for the career that is going to stem from the education.

Prior to considering nursing in Colorado, students should consider the prerequisites required to enter the education program and facility of their choice. Students should consider which education programs are going to suit their needs, and what types of nursing that the student would like to enter. Three basic types of nursing careers that are available include a Nursing Assistant, a Practical Nurses and a Registered nurse. Each of these programs has different requirements when it comes to the education required and the outcome of the career including the type of position and salary that is required. Each of these programs also may have different Colorado nursing prerequisites. The student can use their previous education to determine which nursing career is going to best suit their needs when it comes to their education.

Once the student has established the education requirements and has entered the program, the student will take part in both education in the classroom and education in an actual nursing situation. Students will take part in this clinical experience to put the skills that have been learned through theory, classroom and labs, to the test.

The prerequisite to becoming a nurse is completing the education, but there is one more Colorado nursing prerequisite that must be attained before the student is able to practise nursing. The student must become a licensed nurse, by completing an exam that is given by the Colorado nursing board. In order for the student to become a licensed nurse and able to work in Colorado, the student must pass this exam and submit the fee.

Then, finally, the nursing career can begin. As per the terms of licensing, the student must renew the nursing license on a regular basis to ensure that they are up to date with the current training and requirements, as well to ensure that they are in good standing with the Colorado board of nurses.
