Apply To Nursing Schools
Iowa Nursing Prerequisites
Students considering a career in nursing in Iowa are likely to look into the nursing education programs at the University of Iowa - College of Nursing; as it is one of the premier schools in the state for students to begin their nursing career. Students may be drawn to the program for the many career options that are opened when the nursing degree has been completed and the ability to work as an integral part of the health care team with doctors, nurses and other health care professionals.
For students seeking an alternative to the registered nursing programs that are available through the College of Nursing at the University of Iowa, there are many other options that are available. These programs have fewer Iowa nursing prerequisites and allow the student to take the prerequisites through the colleges and technical schools – even online.
Students can choose to take part in these programs and become a nursing assistant in as little as nine months and a licensed practical nurse in as little as eighteen months. With the diverse programs that are available, it has never been easier for the student to complete a part time education in nursing.
Iowa nursing prerequisites don’t stop with the education of the nurse. Once the education has been completed and the nursing student has graduated from their program of choice, the nurse must pass a licensing exam in order to practise as a nurse in the state. To complete the licensing, the nurse will submit a fee to the Iowa board of nurses – and write the exam that has been created. The exam will require the student to reiterate the information learned through the nursing program and will also require the student to demonstrate knowledge of ethics in issues that are common in nursing and the policies involved with the career.
Once all of these Iowa nursing prerequisites have been met, the student is able to obtain their license and begin to work in a hospital or clinic of their choice, renewing the license as required by the state of Iowa.
