North Carolina Nursing Prerequisites
There are many nursing programs that can be chosen from while in North Carolina, whether the nurse chooses to become a nursing assistant or the nurse choosing to become a nurse practitioner and work with a team of physicians and other health care workers to care for patients in need of acute or ongoing care. Since there are many options that are available for nursing student, including multiple schools that can be chosen from, students have many decisions for their education.
Using the program guide for the nursing programs, students are able to gauge the North Carolina nursing prerequisites for each of the program and determine which nursing program is best suited to them. Common prerequisites for the nursing programs include the requirement of secondary school courses like math, science and English. These secondary school programs can ensure that the student is prepared for the course work that is going to be learned throughout the course of the nursing program. This way, the student can have a solid foundation for the North Carolina nursing program.
Students that have enrolled in the nursing program have options that are available for their licensing. Once the education program has been completed, the student has the option to complete an examination offered by the North Carolina state board of nurses. This licensing exam allows the student to submit the fee to the licensing board, write the exam and be eligible for a nursing job in the state. Without the licensing, the student is unable to work as a nurse in North Carolina.
Once the licensing exam has been completed, the nurse is eligible to work as a nurse as long as the license remains in good standing. The student must renew the license on an annual basis and ensure that their behaviour is in line with the state board of Nurses. To renew the license with the state board of nurses the student must simply submit an application to the board with the applicable paperwork that is required. Employers will often require the student to submit proof of licensing before they are granted the position in the hospital or clinic.
