Utah Nursing Prerequisites

Are you a secondary school student in Utah looking for the right career choice for your future? Perhaps you are an older adult that is already in the work force and looking for a career choice that is going to enable you to take the career further than ever before. There are many options that are available for students and adults that are looking for a career in the medical profession and nursing is one of the most popular careers for women as well as men that are seeking a health care industry job that is going to suit their needs.

What are some of the Utah nursing prerequisites that should be considered when considering the nursing program? First, the student should consider the previous education that is required by the nursing school. The previous classes will vary between nursing schools and nursing programs, with more in depth and lengthy programs requiring more prerequisites than other types of shorter programs, like a nursing assistant. The student should consider that the common classes required include the three main science programs, math and English. Not only are these courses required alone, but the student is often required to graduate from the post secondary program or an equivalent to graduation.

The registered nursing program and practical nurse programs that are offered through local nursing colleges, schools and universities may require the student to take courses like medical terminology and anatomy and physiology once they have been accepted into the program. It is these types of courses that are going to save time throughout the program and ensure that the student is going to have the foundation required to learn the information appropriately that is going to be delivered through the nursing program.

In Utah, students are required to complete the nursing program and also complete an examination once the nursing program has been finished. This examination is written through the Utah state board of nurses and requires the student to finish the examination with satisfactory results to work as nurse in the state of Utah. The final prerequisite will enable the nurse to work in a clinic, hospital or medical facility within the state.
