Washington Nursing Prerequisites
Nurses are an integral part of the health care team and students that are considering a career in nursing have many options that are available to them when choosing between the roles that can be played. Students can choose from the traditional registered nursing program, where the student is required to study for four years, a licensed practical nursing program where the student can become an integral part of this health care team in as little as eighteen months and even a nursing assistant, where the student can make their way into the health care field with the opportunity for advancement in the education in as little as nine months.
What should the student consider when nursing is the top career option? Students that are considering nursing as the top career option should include the Washington nursing prerequisites in their decision. Students should consider the courses that are required, including the traditional secondary school courses and any additional courses in medical terminology or anatomy that may be required in order to give the student the advantage and the basic understanding required for the in depth nursing classes that are going to be undertaken. Considering these prerequisites may help the student to choose between the various nursing programs and allow the student to complete an education schedule for their career choices.
Students should consider the prerequisites to enter into the Washington nursing programs that are not considered to be academic. For example, nursing programs require the student to be current with all immunizations and vaccines. Students are required to have these current vaccines before even the education is begun and the student enters into the nursing program. In addition, the student may be required to undergo an interview and provide personal references as well as providing the nursing program with a background or criminal check to ensure safety throughout any work terms that are being introduced.
Students are required to complete a licensing exam once the education has been completed, the final step in the process of becoming a nurse. The student is required to submit a fee to the state board of Nurses, and complete the examination which the student must pass in order to work as a nurse in the state of Washington.
